Mangas - the origins of anime
Japanese comics are referred to as mangas, but they differ from western comics we know like Marvel Comics. The characters have big wide eyes, colorful hair and according to Japanese tradition, mangas are read from right to left.
The origins of mangas go back much further than you might imagine: As early as the 8th century, Buddhist monks painted murals of animals behaving like humans. Today’s mangas were inspired by the first Disney films. The first mangas were aimed at children, but stories for adults were added soon.
Mangas often serves as source material for anime, which we can see across tv screens. In short: Without mangas, there would be no animes! Do you prefer merchandise that reminds you of the typical drawings from your favorite manga? No problem, because we also have manga merch with, for example, amazing manga panels for you!
The diverse genres in the world of anime
Animes are no longer only intended for younger target audiences or children. While there’s still a huge number of familiy-friendly animes out there, some stories are aimed directly at adults. Every genre that you know from the world of movies and tv series can be found in animes as well: horror, fantasy, adventure or comedy - there’s something for everyone!
In Japan, genres are often classified according to the target audience. Crunchyroll, one of the most important streaming providers for anime, can also filter content according to these genres. These are the most popular genres you should know:

Animes in Pop Culture
In the meantime you will not only find mangas in the bookstore or your favorite anime on the internet. Even Netflix produces its own anime series now, but you can also find well-known animes to stream there.
Many animes have also been adapted as video games - or have been based on existing games. The best-known example is probably Pokémon: The first Pokémon game was released in Japan in 1996 for Game Boy. One year later the first season of the series followed. There are also games for One Piece, Dragon Ball or One Punch Man.
Animes are also often adapted in the music and metal world. The opening song for the fourth season Attack on Titan, for example, convinces with real metalcore! Oli Sykes from Bring Me The Horizon has also been inspired by animes for his own fashion brand Drop Dead. The most amazing mix of anime and music is probably Hatsune Miku. You can even attend concerts of the virtually created character!
